Railson & Heidi Gil

developing Brazilian community, building the body of Christ

Christian missionaries in ParĂ¡, northern Brazil.

family_2007Railson, native to ParĂ¡, is called to developing projects which exemplify the Kingdom in practical ways, specifically through communications development and digital integration (that is, making computer technology available to disadvantaged classes). Heidi is a pediatric nutritionist and English teacher from Oregon, USA. She enjoys putting the Gospel into practice as she counsels nutritionally needy families. Our gifts bring us into contact with people of all levels, which often leads to house visits and impromptu gatherings around the Bible. We love it when God surprises our unsuspecting visitors with the tangible sense of His presence! Here you will find our current and past newsletters as well as photos of our family and region. Have fun exploring our site!

Unlike the nearby Laranjal, there are not truly any slums in Monte Dourado, but there is still silent poverty. In the Planalto zone, a satellite district some 30 minutes away by bus, many families suffer economic hardships and some wrestle with food insecurity. Our church, Fonte da Vida, provides a free bus to and from the Planalto on Sundays for residents to be able to join in on celebration services in town. On October 5th our church took a small team to the area for a time a praise and fellowship followed by words of encouragement from Railson and others. The residents were tremendously encouraged! We would like to be able to offer more social and spiritual assistance, such as teaching materials, health workshops, clothing, kitchen gas and emergency food, to communites like these. (Please see the corresponding photo album.)

Just a quick update here…We are doing extremely well and are encouraged by some recent events that clearly show the intervention of our Mighty God! We took advantage of an opportunity to sell the internet business, recapturing our financial investment and giving us the flexibility to work with new forms of community development. We are especially interested in developing our vision for an independent radio station. That is, a station that would we solely ours, not merely a daily program on a comercial station. There are only 3 stations in our area that reach a population of about 100,000, and none of them deals with educational programming. We are currently looking at starting a Brazilian Foundation (The Jubilee Foundation, in honor of the name of our first radio program in Porto de Moz) as a vehicle through which to bring in the radio.

The CTL (leadership training center) is going well and we both continue to team teach on Sunday mornings, as well as preach frequently at Sunday services and youth group. We may visit the States in July 2008.
